Younis Keeps Door Open For Return

Younis Khan has left open the possibility of taking up captaincy once again, a day after handing his resignation. But he insists it is up to the PCB on how the matter now develops.
Younis resigned from the post on Tuesday during a National Assembly hearing, incensed that he and his team had to defend accusations of match-fixing after their semi-final loss to New Zealand in the Champions Trophy. Ijaz Butt, chairman of the PCB, refused to accept the resignation and told Cricinfo that he will meet Younis over the next few days in the hope of changing his mind.
And in the first sign that Younis may be amenable to such a scenario, he refused to rule out the option, saying it was up to the PCB now. "I have given my resignation. It is their job to see what happens next," Younis told BBC Urdu in an interview hours after his decision to resign.
Younis quashed rumours that Shahid Afridi's meeting with Butt a few days after their return from South Africa had anything to do with his decision, preferring to single out the match-fixing allegations as the main reason. "The last six to eight months only I know the difficulty, every day being told to take along the team, the team management and the entire country. I have made a lot of sacrifices in that time.
"Then to come back to accusations of match-fixing. It was very difficult for me, as a Pathan, to handle such accusations. I've been hiding from people, from friends, from family, as if I've done something wrong. As far as Afridi's meeting with the chairman goes, anyone can meet anyone. There is nothing in this."
Younis said that he had not spoken to anyone before taking the decision but added that he had no complaint with anyone in the PCB. "The chairman and the board have been very supportive and I have no complaints about them. But it was difficult to face after coming back from South Africa."

PCB Chief Hopeful of Younis Rethink

Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, is not willing to accept Younis Khan's resignation as captain of Pakistan and hopes he can change Younis's mind over the next few days. Younis handed in his resignation on Tuesday during the National Assembly's standing committee on sports meeting to look into allegations that Pakistan's losses to New Zealand and Australia were fixed. The charges had been made initially by an Indian newspaper, only for them to be retracted, before MNA Jamshed Dasti, the head of the committee, leveled similar charges and called the hearing.
Butt said that Younis twice gave his resignation, once during the meeting itself and then, after it was turned down, after the meeting when he rushed into Butt's car to hand him the letter again. Both times, however, Butt refused to accept it, instead asking Younis to meet him personally in the hope of getting him to change his mind.
"I didn't accept his resignation during the meeting and he then forced it on me in the car, and I didn't accept it there either," Butt told Cricinfo. "He was very disturbed and perturbed by the whole affair and it is easy to see why. These kind of allegations are serious and without evidence they are damaging."
Butt was insistent that Younis was still the best man for the job. "In the next couple of days I am hoping to meet him. I told him to come and meet me and we can discuss it. I want him to withdraw his decision, I want him to continue. We need him. I don't mind criticism of us, the administration and board, but not the players. They've done well in recent times and I want that to continue."
Some of the speculation surrounding the reasons behind Younis' decision centred on Shahid Afridi's meeting with the chairman in Lahore a few days ago. It has been suggested that the meeting was part of moves to sideline Younis as ODI captain, replacing him with Afridi. Butt rubbished the theories, saying the meeting was held to discuss preparations for the World Twenty20, scheduled to be held in the Caribbean next April.
"Afridi is my Twenty20 captain and there is a Twenty20 World Cup not so long from now in the West Indies," Butt said. "It had nothing to do with anything else. He wanted to meet me to discuss preparations for that tournament and he is the captain, so there is nothing so extraordinary in that."

Younis Offers To Quit As Captain

Pakistan captain Younis Khan has offered to resign his post following days of increasing rumour and speculation surrounding Pakistan's exit from the Champions Trophy in South Africa. The board has yet to take a decision on the offer, which was made during a meeting of a National Assembly committee called to discuss the issue.
Pakistan's semi-final loss to New Zealand, and Younis's crucial dropped catch off Grant Elliot, were the subject of an Indian newspaper report that hinted at more to the loss than what met the eye. The ICC immediately cracked down on the report and though it was retracted the next day, it snowballed in Pakistan in the following days, culminating in today's meeting of the National Assembly's standing committee on sports in Islamabad.
The meeting was called for by the head of the committee, Jamshed Dasti, who claimed that Pakistan's loss was the result of match-fixing, before he took back the allegations. At the meeting, Younis, already prepared with a letter of resignation, publicly made the offer to stand down, incensed at increasing media reports casting doubt on his and the team's integrity. The PCB turned it down at the meeting - and the committee told them to tackle the matter privately - but after the meeting Younis again, briefly, discussed the topic with Ijaz Butt, chairman PCB, and also in attendance.
But the PCB refused to confirm whether they had accepted the resignation, or clarify what the current situation was. "Younis did offer to resign during the National Assembly meeting," Ijaz Butt, chairman PCB, told Cricinfo. "The matchfixing allegations and Pakistan's loss was being discussed and this was stated by Younis. It was said in a public forum so we have to think this over and I have to discuss it with him separately. I have to discuss it further and will not comment any further now."
It is believed that in his resignation letter, Younis has also said he does not want to take part in the upcoming series against New Zealand or the tour to Australia towards the end of the year. The development was criticised by former players, who blamed it on political interference and called it a blow to the sport in the country.
"Politicians have no need to interfere in cricket and they have not only snatched our captain but have damaged the game badly," Ramiz Raja said. "Our honourable captain was insulted by the investigation and we acted on baseless allegations."
Another former captain, Rashid Latif, blamed the media and the PCB. "I think the media was irresponsible by relaying an inauthentic statement by someone and Younus, being an honourable man, resigned over that. I don't see him taking his decision back," he said.
Younis, of course, has a history with captaincy. He once stepped down from his role as stand-in skipper, days before the 2006 Champions Trophy, because he was unhappy with the board administration over a number of seemingly trivial issues. Once the administration changed, however, he took up the role again. A few months later, after the 2007 World Cup and Inzamam-ul-Haq's resignation, he turned down the captaincy claiming later that the environment and circumstances at the time were not right for him to take it up. He only took over as full-time captain in February this year, after Shoaib Malik was pushed aside.

Trophy of Champions League T20

The Airtel Champions League Twenty20 (ACLT20) Trophy ia a hand-crafted trophy to be presented to the champion-of-champions in Hyderabad on October 23, 2009. Designed by Carving Dreams and hand-sculpted by Creative Awards & Rewards, the ACLT20 trophy, which is made of precious metals, is studded with 5.12 carat diamonds and precious & semi-precious gemstones. It stands 1.5 feet tall and weighs just over 6kg.

Inspired by the ACLT20 logo, the trophy's petals are studded with precious and semi-precious gemstones that hold an uplifted platinum ball with emerald green stitching set in green gemstones. The different coloured petals, holding the ball together, signify the diversity of the league of champions and the entire trophy is mounted on a mahogany-coloured, dark wooden base.

The Champions League Twenty20 trophy is a distinct and an exquisite work of art, one befitting the stature of the tournament. The inspiration behind this unique trophy is the coming together of the world's best domestic teams and cricketers to clash for the ultimate glory in the league of champions. This trophy will certainly take pride of place in the trophy cabinet of any of the 12 teams participating in the ACLT20 set to commence on October 8 in Bengaluru.

Introduction - Champions League Twenty20 Cricket 2009

What is Champions League Twenty20?

The Twenty20 Champions League is an international Twenty20 cricket competition between clubs from India, Australia, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and West Indies. The Twenty20 Champions League is chaired by Lalit Modi, who is the Chairman and Commissioner of the Indian Premier League and Vice-President of the BCCI.

The competition was launched in 2008 as a response to the success of national Twenty20 domestic cricket leagues, most notably the Indian Premier League. The first edition was set to take place from late September to early October 2008 in India, after the tournament organisers resolved various teething problems that had put the inaugural tournament under some doubt, but it was later announced that the tournament would be held from December 3 to December 10, 2008. The tournament was postponed again following terrorist attacks in Mumbai in November 2008 and later cancelled, with the first tournament now scheduled for October 2009. Indian mobile service Bharti Airtel has bought the title sponsorship rights of the champions league for the reported amount of rupees 170 crores.
